Here are some well-known steel mills that have been shut down:
1. Bohai Steel Group: Established in 2010 through the merger of four state-owned steel enterprises including Tianjin Pipe Group, it entered bankruptcy reorganization proceedings on August 24, 2018.
2. Tangshan Beishiti Steel (Group) Fufeng Steel Co., Ltd.: On August 14, 2018, the Fengnan District People's Court of Tangshan City accepted its bankruptcy liquidation case, and on October 28, 2020, it declared bankruptcy.
3. Jigang Group Co., Ltd.: Founded in 1958, it was once a pillar industrial enterprise in Jinan, with a steel production capacity exceeding 12 million tons. Its steel production lines were completely shut down in July 2017.
4. Jiugang Group Yicheng Steel Co., Ltd.: Originally named Shanxi Hongyang Steel Co., Ltd., it was established in December 2001. On February 25, 2020, the Yicheng County Court declared the company bankrupt.
5. Tangshan Guofeng Steel Co., Ltd.: Established in 1993, it was a large integrated steel enterprise. Its northern production lines ceased operations in 2018, and the southern lines were phased out in 2021.
6. Shandong Guangfu Group Co., Ltd.: Founded in 1983, it was a privately-owned integrated steel enterprise. It completely halted production on July 19, 2022.
7. Hebei Tangyin Steel Co., Ltd.: The company relocated entirely to Caofeidian District. Its relocation project began in April 2021 and was fully completed and operational by the end of February 2023.
8. Tangshan Jinma Steel Group Co., Ltd.: Its production capacity was transferred for the capacity replacement of the high-quality steel project of Chifeng Zhongtang Special Steel Co., Ltd. in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Tangshan Jinma Steel officially shut down on July 31, 2021, achieving a complete relocation.
9. Tangshan Jianlong Special Steel Co., Ltd.: Its smelting equipment has been completely phased out, and its production capacity was used for the capacity replacement of the vanadium-titanium new material upgrade project of Chengde Jianlong Special Steel Co., Ltd.
10. Chengde Zhaofeng Steel Group Co., Ltd.: In accordance with policies such as capacity reduction, all its smelting equipment has been phased out.
11. Guangzhou Steel Mill: Initially established in 1957, it was later relocated due to development needs. Its original site will be transformed into "Guanggang Park," leveraging the industrial structures and cultural heritage to create a cultural and leisure service axis featuring industrial relics.
12. Xinpu Steel: In 2024, to implement capacity reduction and steel industry integration in Anyang City, Henan Province, Xinpu Steel and other enterprises completed capacity transfers and ceased production. Related blast furnaces and converters were also shut down.
13. Tangshan Xinbaotai Steel: The 650*1 rolling mill was shut down on September 24, 2019, and the 750*1 strip steel rolling mill ceased operations at 24:00 on March 5, 2021. By then, the 630m³ blast furnace and rolling lines of Tangshan Xinbaotai Steel were completely shut down.
14. Wu'an Mingfang Steel: Completely shut down on July 13, 2021. All steel mills around Wu'an have been phased out of the urban area.
15. Haixin Steel Group: Officially declared bankrupt in 2015. Its assets have been gradually auctioned off, and the company no longer exists. After bankruptcy, Haixin Steel's debt issues remain unresolved. The former chairman, Li Zhaohui, was listed as a失信被执行人 (discredited被执行人) by the court due to massive debt disputes and remains missing. This incident has become a classic case of failed family business succession, serving as a warning to future generations about the importance of corporate planning, risk management, and value transmission.
